The Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) is one of seven centres nationally contracted to the NHS R&D Health Technology Assessment Programme to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of health technologies for the NHS. Our work involves the systematic review of evidence and the development of economic models to address major policy questions concerning the use of drugs, devices, procedures and screening programmes. Allied to this work is a programme of research into the methodology for systematic review and economic modelling.
SHTAC produces rapid health technology assessments (systematic reviews with a cost-utility component). These are used to help inform the NICE Appraisals Committee.
